Re-writing code is not a mistake

Friday, August 6, 2010

Just recently, I’ve decided to scrap a very large portion of our engine over at Crysandrea and re-code it. At first, my guilt was haunting me. If I would have followed good practices from the get-go, I wouldn’t be going through this, right? Usually, that’s wrong.

When your starting up your engine, you could think of taking your application north, and as months pass by, you realize the true niche of your application is east. As you grow, your mind most likely goes polishing down what you should really focus on. Along with this, getting it out there is the most important thing of starting a new application. So when/if you catch yourself re-writing your application’s code, it only means you’ve taken a step forward to decide what your application is focusing on. It’s progress in disguise.
